A CD “Review” from THE ‘Makin’ Kids HAPPY’ EXPERT!

  7

My Good Food Friends –

Katherine Pryor is SUCH FUN to be around.  I describe her as a walking CELEBRATION of LIFE!  No one CHEERIER!

Trouble with children ENJOYING Spinach? No problem! Katherine is Author of a delightful little children’s book, “Sylvia’s Spinach”.

2

      2a      1

Trouble with children WANTING to grow ZUCCHINI? Once again, no problem! Her SECOND Book, “Zora’s Zucchini”, was released this August.

3

4

Katherine teamed up with the Artist Illustrator from her first Book, Anna Raff, New York City, and Publisher, Readers To Eaters.

Here’s an entertaining Interview with Katherine on Food Sleuth Radio by Host Melinda Hemmelgarn, RD.

Katherine has a popular and much-in-demand  in-School reading-directly-to-the-Children Show to include her little red wagon FILLED with Spinach to tasteand they DO!  I’ve SEEN it!

5

The “Sylvia’s Spinach” story is so popular that now it’s in paperback to reduce the price to help get its GOOD EATING Message into even wider distribution.

So, that’s two down, S & Z, and 24 more to go. She’ll have her own Fruit and Vegetable Library.  STAY TUNED!

I know Katherine, and HER  HAPPINESS and THEIR  HAPPINESS is not made up for this pic! It’s REAL!!!! She does that to KIDS!

6

Katherine’s review of our soon-to-be-released “CHANGE YOUR FOOD – CHANGE YOUR LIFE!™ Presents: GOOD LiViN’” Compilation CD Album:

“Hi Dennis,

I finally had a chance to listen to the whole CD in one sitting this weekend. My husband & I listened to it on a drive out to a friend’s house in Redmond, which seemed perfect, as I imagine a lot of people will listen to it while driving!

When I first held the CYF-CYL CD in my hands, I wondered how on earth all those different artists and genres would possibly fit together, but you’ve done it! The album is a celebration of life and the feel-good power of real food. The artists deliver their message with passion, humor, and the conviction of converts who’ve seen the dark side of industrial food but who can finally see the light.

WARNING: GOOD LiViN’  was so darn infectious I was still singing along hours after the music stopped. Then again, that’s the kind of viral message we need to be spreading!

GOOD LiViN’  is my FAVORITE song on the album, although Pastor Wyatt with ‘Til My Change Comes is a close runner-up!

GOOD LiViN’ – LIVE! and 7 HOT MINUTES of ‘Til My Change Comes – LIVE!” — both are incredibly powerful.

I’ve thought a lot about how I would “review” this for you, and hope you know how seriously I’ve taken this. I believe in what you’re doing & am so, so impressed at your vision and the talent of all it took to create this.”

IMG_6676

My Good Food Friends –

I attended the Washington Sustainable Food & Farming Network’s Fundraising Dinner last year, and it was soooooooo DELICIOUSLY  FUN, and such an important Event in support of GOOD FOOD, that I thought I’d better bring my camera and take some pictures

1

2

to be able to share the Evening with those who, UNFORTUNATELY, weren’t there. AND maybe encourage a reader or two to make a contribution in support of WSFFN’S ‘good works’.

On Sunday, I was wearing my Change Your Food – Change Your Life! GOOD FOOD TOUR i AM what i EAT! T-shirt, and this guy was reading the back of it: “I changed my life at … Health Care in Communities of Color, Keys to Healthy Living. MIND, BODY & SOUL. Change Your Food – Change Your Life! Presents: a little singin’ … a little cookin’” He said stop and tell me more. Good he read the T, asked me to stop and that I stopped, because Mark turned out to be an Author and a VERY CREATIVE packager. An inspiring book, “Charlie’s THINKING CHEESE™”, packaged with inspirational note cards and envelopes, inspirations for everyday, stickers and ‘Pure & Simple Recipes, Filled with Fast & Tasty Treats!’ Makes for a really nice gift.

Doin’ a Forum right!

My Good Food Friends –

I’ve been a Member of the Children’s Environmental Health Working Group of Washington (CHE-WA) since its Founding in early 2008.  The CHE-WA Working Group http://washington.chenw.org/CEHgroup.html is pretty much the Who’s Who of Children’s Environment Health: EPA Region 10 Children’s Environmental Health, Washington State/Seattle/King County Departments of Public Health, Washington State Department of Ecology, University of Washington Children’s Environmental Health, Director, The World’s Library of Toxicology, American Lung Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, King County Hazardous Waste Management, University of Washington Ecogenetics Center, University Researchers, Government Agencies, Educators, Health and Child Care Providers, NPOs, Private Consultants, Community Members and Businesses.  It’s quite the collaborative, ever-expanding network.

The CHE-WA MISSION: To work collaboratively with diverse groups to eliminate children’s harmful environmental exposures in the Puget Sound region and beyond during their most critical developmental years: pre-conception to age eight.

As we say here at CHE-WA: “Healthy kids offer hope for a healthy World.”

WE ARE: CHE-WA

WE ARE: CHE-WA

This seriously committed, and yet FUN Group, meets monthly to learn from guest speakers and each other, to present emerging science, study and project updates and reviews, to share best practices, to work together on projects of cross-common interest, to leverage resources and to eat ORGANIC DONUTS! www.MightyO.com

I’ve been to a jillion Conferences, Forums and Symposiums, most of which put me to sleep as ‘speakers’ drone on, reading their own PowerPoint™ presentations.  Makes ya want to yell, “Just mail it to me and let me go home!”

Well, my Colleagues, and in particular, Gail Gensler, Local Hazardous Waste Management Program of King County, Margo Young, EPA Region 10 Children’s Environmental Health, Aimee Boulanger, Private Environmental Health Consultant, Carolyn Gleason, MS, HRSA, Rachel Koller, Private Environmental/Toxics Consultant, Steven G. Gilbert, PhD, DABT, Institute of Neurotoxicology and Neurological Disorders, Holly Davies, PhD, Senior Scientist, WA State Dept of Ecology and Nicole Thomsen, King County Public Health … along with EPA’s Gretchen Stewart’s glossy, full-color 12 page Program so that you could tell who the players were … produced a WINNER!

2

Fast-paced A-List Panel Presentations, Discussions, Conversations and Q & A from both the Audience and between the Panelists themselves!  At one time during the height of an 8-Member Panel discussion, I thought I was watching the Discovery Channel!

FULL of brilliance and energy, our very own Master of Ceremonies, Margo Young, EPA, Region 10 Children’s Environmental Health Coordinator, ran the day!

3

With her professional expertise, warm and quick sense of humor, Margo was adept in combining headiness with some happiness.  The way she encouraged and cajoled the Audience into asking questions was a good as any TV Game Show.  And OF COURSE, there were PRIZES!  Lots of THEO Organic Fair Trade Chocolate Bars that made even the shy ask questions!

And for those of you who believe timeliness is next to Godliness, as I do, you would have loved this Forum.  You could have set you watch to the printed Segment times in the Program!

The biennial CHE-WA Forum 2013 was a BIG, sold-out, SUCCESSFUL Event of 200 influencers, decision-makers, decision-leaders with brilliant scientists and engaging panelists from across the country.  The Forum presented and showcased the most current environmental health science: Its relevant concerns, threats and avoidance of risks to health.

4

And hot social media was in play, too.

The CHE-WA Tweet MASTER at work, Krysta Thornton, American Lung Association, along with Hanady Kader, EPA Region 10

The CHE-WA Tweet MASTER at work, Krysta Thornton, American Lung Association,
along with Hanady Kader, EPA Region 10

Go to https://twitter.com/KidsEnvirHealth and take a read of the Tweets that were LIVE from the Forum.  Lots of energy, some pretty heady stuff and FUN pics of the Organic Good Food!  There are reTweets and Favoreds with several then appearing on Facebook Pages!  UNCLE MATT’S® Organic reTweeted within one minute of the Tweet @UncleMatts with pic!  Some reTweets by a ‘What’s happening in Seattle Restaurants’ outfit that’s not even ‘Following’ and some ‘Following’ by those we’ve never heard of!  A Favored by Seattle Children’s® that has 27,708 followers!!! www.SeattleChildrens.com

For Marketing an ‘Event’, there’s synergy in Tweeting as there are reTweets and Favoreds.  #CHEWAForum2013 ends up with a lot of eyes on it and leaves a pretty good Story of its significance.  (Another heavy Tweeter/ReTweeter needs to be called out here, too: Marilyn Hair, MPH, University of Washington Ecogenetics Center! http://depts.washington.edu/ceeh/)

Unlike so many ‘health’ conferences, when during the break they serve equal®, Splenda®, Diet Coke® and a variety of non-organic ‘foods’, which sends a mixed message, at the CHE-WA Forum 2013, an ALL Organic Continental Breakfast, Lunch Buffet and Afternoon Snacks was catered by Portage Bay Café: Eat like you give a damn www.portagebaycafe.com

6

At THIS Forum, you could have gained weight … the Organic Good Food was so DELISH and ABUNDANT!

And as you might have imagined, EVERY detail was covered, to include even an Organic Zero-Calorie Sweetener!

7

Because you KNOW, if you’re going to eliminate a few environmental health risks in life, start with making the Organic Good Food Choice!
